MBA in Hospitality with Finance or Marketing

Course Description:  
This course provides students with an introduction to the dimensions and nature of the hospitality industry. It is designed to review the principles of management and to apply management theory to the marketplace. Students examine the social, cultural, political and economic environments within which l hospitality operators compete for survival and growth. Topics emphasized include management strategy, marketing and human resource management.
Course Length:   2 years - 6 Trimesters

Course Competencies:  

Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:
1. Analyze the motivations for hospitality expansion.
2. Discuss the economic, social and environmental impacts of the hospitality industry.
3. Describe the hospitality marketing mix.
4. List and discuss human resource management issues in relation to operations.


Course Objectives: 

While competencies are specific areas of importance, objectives define a broader set of goals. At the completion of this course the student should be able to:
• Discuss expansion trends in hospitality industry.
• List and discuss the key legal systems and how to solve issues through local and regional legal systems.
• List and describe differences in cultural values and perceptions of certain sociocultural issues related to hospitality management and operations.

Employability Skills: 

One of the instructional goals is to assist the student in developing employability competencies by teaching these skills. This is accomplished by setting high expectations, and establishing accountability for these expectations by giving timely, positive and consistent feedback. Both the instructor and the students will participate in a learning community that models excellent employability skills: leadership, teamwork, integrity, service, time management, etc.
